Tamarindo Beach Is Apt For Swimming (TTN) The sampling taken last month by the Institute of Aqueducts and Sewage Systems’ National Laboratory of Waters confirms that Tamarindo has the quality of water required for being considered “apt for swimming.”

During a field trip on August 13, the agents collected samples from 11 sites located throughout 2 kilometers of beach.

Water authority reveals popular Costa Rica beaches in bad shape (TTT) Some of the Pacific coast's most popular beaches are dangerously polluted with sewage runoff, according to a broad study revealed Friday by the National Water and Sewer Institute (AyA).

According to water samples taken Aug. 13, the beaches of Playas del Coco, Playa Tambor and Jacó are hazardous to human health.

Used Book Becomes A Bible For Tamarindo Recycling (TBT) Gina DiMaggio places her hand firmly on a large, green, hard-back book on the desk beside her.

“We honestly can’t remember who had the idea in the first place,” she says.

The idea she is referring to is the monthly recycling program now underway in Tamarindo. And the book, The McGraw Hill Recycling Handbook, is the bible by which they plan a lot of their spare time.

“Right now there is a 68 per cent reduction in dengue fever cases in the Chorotega zone,”
said a markedly proud Minister of Health, María Luisa Avila, who added malaria was down as well.

A new bill that would alter the limits of the Las Baulas National Marine Park in Playa Grande(TBT) A new bill that would alter the limits of the Las Baulas National Marine Park in Playa Grande has been introduced to the Legislative Assembly.

The bill titled Authentic Interpretation of Article 1 of Law No 7524 was introduced by the opposition Social Christian Unity Party’s Jorge Eduardo Sánchez Sibaja, and sent to the Assembly’s Permanent Environment Commission.

It was published this week in the government’s official organ, La Gaceta.

Last September, the Asociaciòn ProMejoras de Tamarindo (APMT) was forced to terminate the lifeguard program due to financial constraints. This was a major blow to the image of our community, because in effect, it also ended our coveted “Bandera Azul Ecologica“ (local Costa Rican Blue Flag program) status. With lifeguards protecting our visitors once again, we may qualify for this certification new and could even elevate this status to an International Blue Flag with greater community support.
