Special luxury car tax rejected in committee (AMC) Members of a legislative committee have rejected a proposal that would put a 50 percent annual road tax surcharge of so-called luxury vehicles. The vote was 6 to 3 in the  Comisión Permanente de Asuntos Hacendarios Tuesday.

The proposal was advanced by the Partido Acción Ciudadana and would have covered vehicles worth more than 7 million colons. That's about $12,700 at the current exchange rate.
