NEW: Book Store Franchise
Specialised in Nicaragua Excursions

We carry maps, postcards, stamps and have an official mailbox. We offer more than 120 different titles of Central American CDs, with open copies for in-store play for most of them.

New & used books & CDs; Book exchange. Great selection of non-English books. We are recommended by Lonely Planet.

Maps

We offer a vast array of maps of Costa Rica: topographical, surf spots, maps of the national parks, waterproof maps, a detailed road map of Guanacaste. We also carry maps of Nicaragua, Panama, and Central America.

Travel Guides

We have an extensive catalogue of new Lonely Planet guides for Central and South America, along with a broad range of used guides for these countries. We have also posted in the shop bus schedules for the area.

Arts & Entertainment

We now display the artwork of several local artists, including oil paintings by Susan Adams Galeria Pelicano and individually hand-painted greeting cards by local artists Sage and Kay Dodge. We also carry a nice selection of color prints by local photographers Sean Davis and Thornton Cohen Studio Tamarindo.

Being a music geek (and proud of it), I know most of the local musicians and the calendar of live music for the area on a nightly basis and I am more than willing to share this information.

We have sporadic Sunday afternoon art festivals outside the shop that includes live performances, paintings, ceramics, jewelry and good typical home cooking.

CD Catalogue

I am very proud of the CD selection in the shop. Central America has a rich and varied culture, as reflected by the diverse styles of music here. We now carry more than 120 different titles, with open copies for the customer to sample in the shop.

I like being able to match the music with the customer’s request. We have a lot of independently produced CDs that simply cannot be found anywhere else. We have several Costa Rican music DVDs, too.

I write monthly music reviews for 4 different Costa Rican magazines and have written liner notes for Papaya Music, the major recording company in Costa Rica, so I am fairly well-ensconced in the music scene here and love sharing the information I have learned.

The Books

The used books just keep growing! The bulk of them are fiction in English, but we also carry non-fiction, as well as a good supply of used books in Spanish, German, Italian, French, Dutch, and a variety of other languages.

We take books in trade, in credit for any item on sale in the shop. We have a wide variety of Costa Rica gift books as well, from photographic journals, to cookbooks, to plant, mammal and bird books and books on the history of this country.

In addition, we have a nice display of autographed, rare, and one-of-a-kind books, which are also for sale.

The Postal Connection

After much campaigning, we are now lucky enough to have an official Costa Rican mailbox. We sell stamps and envelopes and we have, by far, the largest selection of postcards in Tamarindo.

Jaime Peligro Books and Music in Tamarindo Costa RicaThe Legend of Jaime Peligro

Jaime Peligro is a future string of franchised stores in Central America, specializing in music and literature.

The original shop, in Playa Tamarindo, Costa Rica, was started in 2002 by Jim Parisi, with his personal collections as “starter seed”.

Jim worked in the wine business for most of his adult life. In 1975, he founded Looney Toons, a music store in Napa CA, which he sold in 1993.

He also opened Merrie Melodies with his brother Scott in 1986 and moved the shop into the Napa store in 1990.

The nickname “Jimmy Danger” was bestowed upon him by fellow winery employees who viewed his adventures during his vacations as perilous ones.

When Parisi decided to move to Costa Rica, the Spanish version of this moniker seemed like a catchy title for his newest project. The rest, as they say, is history…

NEW: Book Store Franchise

Have you thought about opening your own CD & Book shop in Costa Rica? As a business venture, there is a high demand for stores of this kind throughout the country.

Jaime Peligro in Playa Tamarindo is now offering two, and only two, independently owned franchise opportunities for 2008.

Jaime Peligro has been a successful business for five years, with an excellent reference in the Lonely Planet guide for Costa Rica. Along the way, this business has accrued an excellent repoire in the music industry in Costa Rica, as well as the University of Costa Rica and the major national book distributor, in addition to an impressive stable of independent book and postcard distributors.

Advantages of purchasing one of these two exclusive franchises include joint purchasing and a very inexpensive offer for advertising. Of course, brand recognition is immediate, as would be the names and contacts for the best vendors that have been amassed over the past five years.

Jaime Peligro would also offer help setting up a business asociado, recommend a selection of legal advice, help in the clerical end of getting a cell phone, a land line and turning on electricity. They will also help set up bank accounts, if desired.

A future profit sharing plan is in place as well, exclusively offered to the first two franchises onboard. Start-up fee has been kept to a minimum specifically to enhance group success.

If you are considering opening such a business in Costa Rica, why not utilize the advantages of a successful operation?

As an update on this newest project: the first Jaime Peligro fraanchise has been purchased and will be opening in Tilaran, near the volcano Arenal, in January, 2009.

We also offer great deals and tips travelling to Nicaragua, as noted below.
