The APMT consists of people who have made Tamarindo their home and as volunteers for APMT they work hard to help our town grow in a worthy manner. The board of directors of APMT and its committees are applying and executing progressive business strategies to create the foundations for a new Tamarindo. The objectives of APMT are focused on improving Tamarindo as a tourist destination and as a place of residence.

This is expressed in our vision and mission:

VISION: A Tamarindo positioned and consolidated in the national and international tourism market because of its natural resources, rich landscape, socio-cultural values, quality of life and harmony with the environment.

MISSION: To participate actively in the development process of Tamarindo and its zone of influence while applying a model of sustainability which promotes economic and socio-cultural improvement and enhances the quality of life of its inhabitants, through the appropriate, just and fair use and management of its natural resources, with tourism as its basic economic activity.

PRINCIPLE: Preserve and improve Tamarindo's location inside the national park through sustainable development and enforcement of law.

Federico is Executive Director and he is responsible for the administration as well as public relations and liaisons with government institutions, most importantly the Santa Cruz Municipality which governs everything in Tamarindo.
He is also in charge of communications and sends out reports about current projects.

His most important goal is to maintain internal and external transparency so that all members and Tamarindo residents can be assured that donated funds are being used well.

Tamarindo Costa Rica 2007 Tamarindowiki helicopter shot4. The six codes of APMT

These codes prioritize the work to be done. The codes are:

Code 1 Enforcement of Law
This targets everything concerning the laws of Costa Rica and their enforcement by government institutions and municipal entities.

This is the job of each institution and not of APMT: compliance with the law, regulations and criteria of the country so that the environmental treasures are not destroyed and so that sustainable development is promoted in the area.

Code 2 Zoning Plan and Sustainable Development
It targets the approval of a zoning plan for the Tamarindo district. A gigantic effort has been made in the last few years to cement the necessary regulations to protect our environment. At the moment we are in the final stages of the design of the plan which is headed up by Hector Chavarría (architect) of INVU, the National Housing and Urbanism Institute, together with the Municipality of Santa Cruz and APMT. We firmly believe in the development of this area but it must be sustainable in the long run by protecting our resources as well as our environment.

Code 3 Blue Flag Program
This targets maintaining the Blue Flag Program in Tamarindo. It involves various APMT programs such as trash pick up and the life guard program. Eliminating and controlling the pollution of the ocean is also our goal as we work together with the appropriate institutions and local residents.

Code 4 Black Water Treatment
It targets the construction of a waste water treatment plant which will process all waste water generated in Tamarindo. APMT has a proposal which is a starting point for the construction of the plant. Institutions and business people have also pledged their support for the project which is of vital importance for the future.

Code 5 Crime Prevention and Security
It targets crime prevention and the safety of local residents. We work together with the local police to gather enough resources so that they can work more efficiently. In the same vein, APMT has created a PPP (Public Private Partnership) APMT-SIP whereby a private company supplies guard and armed response service for residents. Of the fees paid for this service a certain part goes directly to a special fund created for the local police, thereby automatically generating funds every month for their operations.

Code 6 Infrastructure, Roads and Parking This targets improving the existing infrastructure by means of agreements with business people and the Municpality in order to secure investment in our community. Road repair, parking improvements and other smaller works are part of this code.

Tamarindo Costa Rica 2007 Tamarindowiki helicopter shot5. Targeted Donations

At this time we are accepting either or additional to the APT yearly membership fee specific donations for current projects. You can target your donation to one of the six APMT codes and we use a trust as a guarantee that the funds donated are only spent for their intended use and the code they are targeted for.

That way the whole process is transparent and the donation is used as the project progresses. We will publish what ammount is needed to get started and in case the project does not come to pass, the whole sum is returned to the donor.

Right now we are looking for a code 2 targeted donation of $ 10.000,-- in order to extend the IFA study which is done for the area of Tamarindo for the whole district of Tamarindo. If the money comes together we will be able to proceed on the Plan Regulador for the district of Tamarindo.

Remember: without having a plan regulador for the district of Tamarindo there will be no plan regulador for the area of Tamarindo and we still have to work with the old ICT plan regulador for the zona maritima which covers only part of the coast line of the area of Tamarindo.

This is a group of residents, APMT members, who have taken it upon themselves to raise money so that the efforts made by the APMT every day don't go to waste for lack of funding.

They organize events throughout the year to create awareness about the situation in Tamarindo and to raise money.

Tamarindo Costa Rica 2007 Tamarindowiki helicopter shots8. Current Projects One of the planned projects for 2008 is the creation of the Chamber of Commerce which will allow those members of the community who wish to do something specific in areas such as commerce or tourism to participate to improve our town.

The idea is to bring the community together through different platforms that people can participate in as they wish.

Of course our permanent project is to increase Association membership; there are currently 160 members (5 times more than at the beginning of 2007).

More members means more funds, which means that projects can be completed faster and more efficiently.

9. Town Meeting There are monthly town meetings to discuss actions plans, depending on the availability of funds and community participation. Transparency of the Association is vital! The monthly meetings take place the first Friday of each month from 4 to 6 pm. We meet at Restaurante La Baula so that those who wish can have dinner together after the meeting.

If you have suggestions, comments or if you'd like to get involved, please contact the Board of Directors of APMT by email: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
