 (TTN) Finally! After several meetings, Tamarindo Police has a place to build their new Station. This is now possible after analyzing three options during a meeting held in October, which was attended by the Minister of Security Fernando Berrocal, members of the Police Department, Asociación Pro Mejoras de Tamarindo, Grupo Roble, Van der Laat & Jiménez, representatives of Hacienda Pinilla, Santa Cruz Mayor Jorge Chavarría, among others. Versión en Español  Photo (CourtesyTN): Public land proposed for the location of the new Tamarindo police station The objective of this project is to have a new station that besides having the infrastructure required, has the equipment necessary to improve the communication, surveillance and response services given by the officers of the Fuerza Pública. Currently, and according to the commanding officer of Guanacaste, Hugo Uva, there are 16 officers in the region; however, they do not have the facilities required. Due to the difficult situation the Fuerza Pública is now dealing with, the Minister of Security committed himself to appoint four more officers by the end of the year to strengthen surveillance, and send a 4WD- double cab vehicle and two motorcycles. According to Jorge Calvo, President of APMT, the idea is to work together with state agents and private security in order to strengthen the work done by the Fuerza Pública. “From the beginning of November on, the Asociación, as a partner of this program, will give a surveillance service with armed response; a percentage of the funds raised will be given to the Police Department,” said Calvo. Alarms will be set up in houses, commercial venues and offices; thanks to the coordinated work between the public and private guards, there will be permanent surveillance and immediate response when any of the alarms activates. This will not only satisfy the needs of the market, but will also allow the offering of an efficient and effective service. “We have been analyzing this plan for 6 months already and it is not about reacting to specific events, but about preventing situations. Security requires investment and if the State does not have the resources necessary then we must look for them and collaborate.” Security and technology The Minister of Security said, “the corresponding formalities have been already carried out before the Central American Bank for Economic Integration in order to finance the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE) with the purchase of the equipment necessary for the installation of surveillance cameras in different spots throughout the country.” The Minister also said that such high-tech equipment has been used in several other countries, assuring a bigger capacity of response and surveillance. The equipment could be completely installed by January 2008. The system is already used in different countries and it has made the British community, for example, an over-guarded country. Twenty new British high rises (including the Tower of London) are incorporating surveillance cameras with speakers. About 4,2 million video cameras have been set up throughout United Kingdom. Fuerza Pública Tendrá Nueva ConstrucciónFinalmente, tras varias reuniones, ya se cuenta con un lote para construir la nueva Estación de Policía de Tamarindo. Esta posibilidad se concretó luego de analizar tres opciones en la reunión que se sostuvo en el mes de octubre en la que se contó con la presencia del Ministro Seguridad, Fernando Berrocal, integrantes de la Fuerza Pública, miembros de la Asociación Pro Mejoras de Tamarindo, Grupo Roble, Van der Laat y Jiménez, personeros de Hacienda Pinilla , el Alcalde de Santa Cruz, Jorge Chavarría, entre otros. Este último se comprometió a donar un terreno ubicado en las cercanías del Gimnasio de Tamarindo. “Nos comprometimos a prestar este lote que es propiedad municipal para el desarrollo de esta construcción con el fin de brindarle más seguridad tanto a los locales como los turistas que visitan o residen en la zona, ya que consideramos que la tranquilidad es sinónimo de bienestar para todos.” Lo que se pretende es tener una estación que además de tener la infraestructura necesaria, cuente con los equipos para mejorar el servicio de comunicación, monitoreo y respuesta de los efectivos de la Fuerza Pública. En este momento, según el comandante de la Fuerza Pública para Guanacaste, Hugo Uva, hay 16 efectivos en la zona; sin embargo, no se cuentan con las instalaciones necesarias para albergar a los oficiales. Ante la difícil situación de los agentes de la Fuerza Pública, el Ministro de Seguridad se comprometió a enviar a finales de año cuatro efectivos más para reforzar la vigilancia, una patrulla de doble cabina 4x4 y dos motocicletas. Para lograr el fortalecimiento de la Fuerza Pública, según cuenta Jorge Calvo, presidente de la Asociación de Pro mejoras de Tamarindo, se pretende trabajar en conjunto con los agentes estatales y la seguridad privada. La Asociación como socio en este programa ofrecerá este servicio de monitoreo con respuesta armada en los primeros días de noviembre y un porcentaje de los fondos que se generen se entregarán a la Fuerza Pública”, aseguró Calvo. Se instalarán alarmas en residencias, locales comerciales u oficinas; habrá vigilancia permanente y respuesta inmediata en el momento en que se active alguna alerta, lo que se logrará, según Calvo, mediante el trabajo coordinado entre la seguridad pública y la privada. Esto no sólo satisfacerá las distintas necesidades de los mercados, sino también que logrará eficiencia y efectividad en el servicio. “Este plan lo venimos analizando desde hace seis meses y no se trata de reaccionar ante hechos concretos, sino de prevenir situaciones. En la seguridad hay que invertir y si el estado no tiene recursos es necesario buscarlos para así colaborar en este tema”. Seguridad y tecnología El Ministro de Seguridad, Fernando Berrocal agregó que “ya se realizaron gestiones ante el Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica con el propósito de financiar al Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) para la compra del equipo necesario con el que se pretenden instalar cámaras de vigilancia en diferentes puntos del país”. El jerarca comentó que se trata de un equipo de alta tecnología utilizado en varios países, con lo que se garantiza mayor capacidad de respuesta y vigilancia. Este sistema podría quedar instalado en enero del 2008. Este sistema ya se utiliza en varios países y han convertido a la comunidad británica, por ejemplo, en un país sobre-vigilado. Veinte nuevas torres británicas (incluyendo la torre de Londres) van a incorporar cámaras de seguridad con altavoces.
