They’re Back in Action and None Too Soon

Photo (jfs): Men at Work Johnathan on left and Cesar on right(JFS) Months of perserverance by Cheryl & Ann McKillican has finally paid off, we once again have life guards on duty. Last September, the Asociaciòn ProMejoras de Tamarindo (APMT) was forced to terminate the lifeguard program due to financial constraints. This was a major blow to the image of our community, because in effect, it also ended our coveted “Bandera Azul Ecologica“ (local Costa Rican Blue Flag program) status. With lifeguards protecting our visitors once again, we may qualify for this certification new and could even elevate this status to an International Blue Flag with greater community support.

Photo (jfs): Tamarindo Needs You!
Previously we had four lifeguards, at the moment we have annual commitments to only pay for the sevice of three until other businesses get on board with this all important service. The most urgent need at the moment is finding 7-restaurants who will take turns providing the life guards their lunch which Best Western Vista Villas is providing for the moment, and we need to get the last lifeguard towers repaired. Tamarindo Diría is fixing their tower and there is one other still in need of immediate repairs. We also are in need of more equipment for the life guards and some type of uniform. There are 17 businesses and the APMT that are contributing money on a monthly basis to get this program up and running, they are as follows:

Many Thanks to these business for their help and concern for our visitors & residents. P&D Lawyers has generously provided the use of their board room and written all the contracts. The Red Cross donated 2 rescue flotation devices, Iguana Surf donated 2 pairs of fins, Banana Surf and Blue Trails donated fins.and the McKillican family donated 3 sets of masks and snorkels (& all the leg work).

Dr. Jorge Calvo Lon (Pacific Life) is going to donate medical kits, and of enormous importance, there is a defibrillator that will be kept close to the beach that was donated by John & Irene O’Malley.

Remember the “Town needs to Support those who Support the Town!“ Please Support those businesses that are Supporting Our Town.

This program is of vital importance to the well being of Tamarindo and all of us and our families, any help that you are able to offer is needed and will be greatly appreciated.

Ideally we need an additional $1,300 per month to hire a fourth lifeguard.
