(CEPIA) What is a local school about without help from the neighborhood? On Monday, February 11th the new school year started for local students. In Santa Rosa the school year began with the help of CEPIA volunteers Tui Frye from Sueno del Mar B & B in Langosta and Nina Weber of Casa Azul's Tamarindo Yoga at the Beach in Tamarindo and other local community members. The first step was to raise some money which was accomplished by having a fund raising breakfast on Saturday, December 8th 2007 at Sueño Del Mar. ![]() Photo (naw): Cleaning the Santa Rosa school While the kids and the sponsors enjoyed an excellent breakfast, jumping into the pool was the main activity of the children from Santa Rosa. Most of these kids come from an impoverished background and have never swum in a body of water except for a creek or river. Thanks to local support, about $500 was raised. Laetita Deweer of the Association for Culture, Education and Psychology for Infants and Adolescents (CEPIA) introduced the new Director of the school in Santa Rosa, Elia M. Angulo Marchena. The Santa Rosa school is attended by 60 to 70 children from grade 1 through 6. Their school house is a nice old wooden building in the center of Santa Rosa and a building such as this needs constant attention and repair in order to properly serve as a school. It is an old, old building and needed more than just a facelift. ![]() Photo (naw): The new stuff at Santa Rosa school Plans to install six new fans in the rooms evolved and it was soon realized that the old wiring was inadequate. Ashton Allio decided that the best solution would be to rewire the electrical system for the fans and to improve the lighting as well. Sueño del Mar donated all of the labor to install these upgrades and improvements. So this school year got started with a clean, cool and well lighted class rooms for the students. Angulo Marchena New Principal, Maria Eugena (Asistent of Principal) and Veronica Rodriguez Villafuerte (Cleaning) spearheading the clean up with lots of neighbors showing that things can be done even without waiting on the government. Thanks to the fundraiser sponsors, friends of Children from Costa Rica and to the students and parents of the School for their help and hard work. There is plenty to do to give the children of Costa Rica opportunities that are enjoyed by most children in the world today. The fans are absolutely gorgeous. The CEPIA volunteers are doing a sensational job, there is nothing more noble than a genuine volunteer. CEPIA has a lot of funds to do a lot of good. |
